Vegan or not, hummus had exploded on the food scene in recent years and it’s not going anywhere. The earliest known dishes of hummus trace back to the 13th century. (dropping some knowledge for you!) It’s creamy texture and protein packed goodness has made it a staple in our home. I use it on all kinds of dishes. Sandwiches, dips, and raw alkaline bowls to name a few. On my search to find a healthy version without a bunch of preservatives and unnecessary ingredients, I decided to try my own recipe and I was pleasantly surprised!
There are many different recipes for hummus, my version is super quick, super easy, and only 5 ingredients. Some recipes call for lemon in hummus, I personally think it makes it too acidic tasting. Therefore I don't add any in. So let’s get right to it with this delish and easy A Messy Vegan recipe!
What you’ll need: ○ can of garbanzo beans (drained) ○ 2 - 3 tbs. of tahini (I love the taste of tahini, so I always go with a little more)
○ 2 medium cloves of garlic
○ 1 - 1 1/2 tsp. of sea salt
○ 1/4 water
I love to use hummus as a sauce on sandwiches so this version is thinner. If you like a good thick dip version, start with 1/8 cup of water.
What to do: Super easy! Dump all your ingredients in to your blender or food processor. and blend throughly until its a creamy, light colored mix.
You can also top it with some tasty garnishes like: ○ pine nuts
○ sunflower seeds
○ chopped basil
○ chili powder
○ chopped olives
So give it a try! This is a pretty no fail recipe for a quick dip if your having friends over or a family get together, or just a Tuesday night snack!
Let me know how it goes. Message me and send me a pic of your version of hummus! XO - Enjoy!
